What to do and see nearby

Edmundbyers – 4 miles

The Derwent Arms is a lovely country pub serving really nice scran and Sunday lunch. There’s also The Baa in this pretty little hamlet. And a branch of the YHA (an organisation we regularly support though obviously we’d prefer you to stay with us). If it’s pubs you’re after, you’ll also pass the Manor House Inn on the way to Edmundbyers – or the Derwent Manor Hotel if you go in the opposite direction.

Derwent Reservoir – 4 miles

The cottage’s garden is an excellent place for stargazing but just round the corner is another lovely spot for staring upwards. Next to the reservoir is Derwent Waterside Park.

Brocksbushes – 10 miles

Brocksbushes has grown a bit since its days as a pick-your-own fruit farm just off the Styford roundabout with a little farm shop. It’s much bigger and not quite so quaint, but it has all your fruit, veg, cafe, crafts and treats needs sorted.

Blanchland – 9 miles

Steeped in history and, with the Lord Crewe Arms in the centre of the village, a perfect place to end one of Northumberland’s many walks. Just 20 minutes from the cottage by car.

Wheelbirks Parlour – 8 miles

Ice cream, coffee, food and a pretty little orchard to sit in.

Corbridge – 12 miles

Cafes, pubs, restaurants, bakery, butcher and deli – this charming little village has eating and drinking well covered. But it also has a collection of shops selling everything from kitchenware to clothes, jewellery to shoes, gifts to quirk.

Beamish Museum – 14 miles

Beamish is one of the best museums there is. Ride round in old trams and buses to villages from 1820s to the 1950s. Try out playing hoops in the old school house, don’t miss the traditional fish and chips and definitely make time to watch sweets being made in the old sweet shop.
